- ABOUT THE PROJECT -
Breath is the vital energy that sustains life which we all share as living beings; conscious breath sustains awareness. Breath permeates one and all and reminds us that we are all unified by this vital energy. Without breath, there is no life.
In the yogic tradition, Prāṇāyāma (Sanskrit: प्राणायम), composed by Prāṇā ((प्राण, prāṇa vital life force/ breath) and āyāma (Sanskrit: यम, meaning ‘to control’)) is the fourth of the eighth limbs of yoga, which together with the Nyamas constitute a series of ethical rules of living according to the Yoga philosophy and the Vedas - as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (precepts for ‘right living’).
Thus extending from the yoga tradition (union of body, mind and soul) and using the Breath as our point of departure, this project proposes a collective journey in the activation of creativity, space and time through embodiment and expression, in connection with the physicality of ‘making’.
Treating the gallery space as a living entity (processing, changing, transforming) the ‘work’ is created throughout a series of community engagement workshops marrying yoga, mindfulness and meditative practices with art making, aimed at bringing into fruition transformative self-explorative creative practices as potential catalysts for individual and collective change.
We are therefore extending our invitation to the local community to come together and work with other yoga/creative practitioners to co-create work for a short term collaborative exhibition, in celebration of Breath and Life.
The project will run from the 18th until the 21st November throughout a series of community engagement workshops, combining yoga with a creative output work.
Full Circle project is led by Teresa Paiva (artist and yoga teacher) in collaboration with HOXTON 253 art project space and creative practitioners/yoga teachers Lana Smith and Carlo Mancini.
